We create functional habitat that looks beautiful so you can enjoy thriving communities of birds, pollinators, native plants, and other wildlife right outside your front door.

Five site profiles

Establishing a wet meadow

After post-construction grading left this area with scarred and compacted soil we seeded a native meadow mix. It now enters its third growing season with increasingly evident plant diversity and density of flowering perennials.

Converting lawn to a woodland meadow

We started with a front yard that bordered the woods but had minimal landscaping. Our goals were to reduce the amount of mowing required, introduce texture and foliage to reflect the natural surroundings, and create a more pleasant transition to the front door and porch.

Softening a pool fence

The goal of this design was to block or screen a pool fence that was distracting from the wonderful view. Rather than rely on a visually heavy screen, we de-emphasized the fence by building a boisterous perennial garden around it.

Defining traffic patterns

A key objective in this design was to define the different sections of this yard, and connect them with natural walkways. By replacing a significant portion of the lawn with meadow plantings we created a space that is full of texture and color while offering different nooks to explore.

Framing a seating area

This planting was put together to provide a foundation for this popular sitting area. By selecting lower-growing perennials we highlighted this corner while allowing the wonderful view to remain the focal point.
